You’ll be joining a team of passionate teachers working to edit Twinkl’s online EAL content for educators across the UK. The majority of your time will be spent working with Content Writers, Designers and Illustrators and engaging with product priorities to facilitate the highest possible quality of teacher content for our customers. Your weekly activities could include:

  • checking a broad range of new resources for spelling, punctuation, grammar, curriculum relevance and factual accuracy;
  • sensitively offering feedback, advice and support to our writers where needed;
  • running workshops with other members of your team;
  • demonstrating excellent communication skills with the writers, designers and illustrators that you collaborate with;
  • curating existing content on site to ensure that it is up to date and meets customers' needs.

Our ideal candidate will be passionate about giving back to the education community and keen to share their expertise in working with, and for, learners of EAL and their families. This position can take place at our Sheffield HQ office or it can be a work-from-home, flexible position. The role requires work from 10-2 Monday-Friday, but remaining hours can be agreed between you, your line manager and your Product team to fit around your current commitments and business needs. For the first 2 weeks, you will be able to commit to 7.5 working hours between 8am and 5pm to enable you to receive training and be supported in your new role.

Requirements

To succeed in the role, you will:

  • have completed qualified teacher status: PGCE, B.Ed or equivalent;
  • have experience of full classroom teaching experience after QTS is complete;
  • be a confident practitioner in the delivery of the national curriculum to children accessing English as an additional language;
  • be a fantastic communicator who thrives when working in a close-knit team;
  • have detailed and up-to-date knowledge of the National Curriculum in England;
  • have an eye for detail, including excellent SPaG knowledge, and know how to fact check using reliable sources;
  • be prepared to confidently work between different IT platforms, including Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and G Suite;
  • have a drive for continuous professional development;
  • understand and be actively involved in the wider English language teaching community including being well informed of the latest national EAL guidance, research, and multilingual teaching practices.

In this role, you will learn:

  • how to check content and provide feedback for our writers;
  • how to work in ‘agile’ teams, allowing you to solve problems and change tasks quickly to meet deadlines;
  • how to collaborate with educational professionals based across the UK through our company focus groups and customer feedback requests;
  • how to create new products, from ideation stage to publication;
  • how to use Project Tracking software as well as other in-house systems.

You’ll work with:

  • Christina Hingley (EAL Product Owner);
  • Your own direct Line Manager, who will be confirmed;
  • Our team of qualified teachers who will write, edit and produce content for our EAL and inclusive content;
  • Our amazing in-house design and illustration teams, collaborating daily to produce the beautiful, polished resources that Twinkl are known for.

We're interested in anyone who meets one, or a combination of the following:

  • has taught, planned or adapted existing curriculum content to support EAL learners across either a primary or secondary (or both) age range;
  • has experience of being an EAL specialist, whole school EAL lead or coordinator, or EAL lead teacher and has a thorough understanding of how to support multilingual learners of differing language proficiency in mainstream provision;
  • has detailed knowledge of the content of the 2014 National Curriculum;
  • if working remotely: Access to a fast and reliable internet connection of at least 6mb down and 1mb upload. We recommend you use speedtest.net to check.
  • has experience of working with multilingual learners, students who may be new to learning English, and international new arrivals (refugees and learners seeking asylum);
  • understands the additional factors of welcoming learners of English as an additional language which may include, but not be limited to, pastoral guidance, mental health and trauma support, and working with parents and carers who may be new to learning English.
