Joining our Aerospace Technical Publications team will see you working with global colleagues, using cutting edge technology to support our Aerospace customers. Airlines have invested in Flatirons Technical Content Management Solutions for nearly 30 years and over 350 million airline passengers a year depend on the Flatirons platform to get them off the ground and safely to their destinations.

We have exciting and rewarding opportunities for Technical Authors to support Technical Publications projects for our Aerospace customers. These roles are primarily supporting customers in the Bristol area, but hybrid/remote working opportunities are available for UK nationals. Our collaborative workspace is ideally located at Aztec West, Bristol.

Successful candidates will develop, research, and revise engine, system, and component maintenance manuals and publications, and service bulletins for the Aerospace industry in accordance with customer requirements. The role will suit candidates who enjoy working in a fast-paced, agile, and constantly changing environment with an ethical team culture and strong emphasis on collaboration, and open communication. As a Technical Author you will….

  • Write procedures and technical documentation to fulfill customers’ applicable writing specifications: technical accuracy is compulsory.
  • Revise technical content of existing manuals specified by engineering specifications.
  • Coordinate all phases of the manual processes, from source data, organizing and interpreting content, ordering art and incorporating the parts list.
  • Review manufacturer's drawings, and other data relative to operation, maintenance, and service of equipment.
  • Study blueprints, schematics, drawings, parts lists, specifications, mock-ups, and product samples to integrate and delineate technology, operating procedure, and production sequence and detail.
  • Organize material and complete writing assignments according to set standards regarding order, clarity, conciseness, style, and terminology.
  • Understand and adhere to all requirements of the Quality Management System and the Information Security Management System.

Education and experience requirements to join our team....

  • Experience with S1000D, ATA2200 and/or MIL-SPEC specifications.
  • Previous use and/or knowledge of Arbortext Editor, Adobe Framemaker, or Quicksilver required.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical procedures, technical manuals, illustrated parts lists and schematics.
  • Ability to write technical manuals, procedure manuals and service bulletins. Familiar with AECMA Simplified English.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from managers, team members, and customers.
  • Numerate with the ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions in written, oral, diagrammatical, or schedule form.
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Proficiency in one or more of the following applications: MS Word, Framemaker, Interleaf, SGML based desktop publishing software.
  • Self motivated and results driven with desire to meet customer requirements.
  • Adaptable to change with resilience to overcome challenges.
  • A collaborative team player who is accountable for own deliverables.

Miscellaneous requirements of the Position

Due to export control requirements, this position requires candidates with UK citizenship and the ability to satisfy BPSS security clearance requirements.
