Job Description


This is a varied and interesting role and you will work within a small and friendly team to support the business. This role can be physical at times and involves being on your feet during the day coupled with heavy lifting so you need to be physically fit with the ability to get stuck into any tasks required.

The Role:

Soley responsible for the day-to-day management of the stores' function, including ordering and receiving stock into the building. Managing the daily routine maintenance, ensuring that the building services meet the business needs in line with health and safety requirements. Supporting the laboratory in the preparation of samples and products.

Main duties:

Stores:

  • Efficient daily operation of stores including raising all purchase orders and managing stock levels
  • Safe management of storing chemicals in line with legislation
  • Maintaining an inventory and supplier database.
  • Control of stock including tracking goods inwards, dispatches, returns and assisting with the recording of all incoming post as well as returns if applicable, using royal mail and couriers.
  • Receiving all deliveries and distributing accordingly throughout the business.
  • Operating the purchase order system by raising orders for all goods or services.
  • Collection and delivery of supplies as required using a company vehicle.

Facilities Assistant:

  • Conduct regular health and safety checks, including but not limited to weekly fire alarm and emergency light and legionella tests. Responsible for reporting any issues to the Health and Safety Officer
  • Ensure efficient waste management of both general and recycled/flammability waste.
  • Supporting the lab with the disposal of contaminated waste, sharps and glass bin and liaising with the providers.
  • Carry out general maintenance and housekeeping including but not limited to changing light bulbs, management of bait boxes, cleaning, painting and other basic general maintenance of the property as required. Working at heights will be required when appropriate.
  • Maintaining adequate levels of catering and toiletry supplies and replenishing stocks as required.
  • Manage vehicles effectively through a vehicle booking system and ensure their safekeeping and availability.
  • Escort contractors as required on site.
  • Carrying out all routine tasks in line with the Standard Operating Procedures 157

Laboratory Assistant

  • Support with the receipt of bottled gas and liquid argon for the lab.
  • Support the laboratory with the preparation of samples and products.
  • Assist with COSHH risk assessments, concentrating on the hazards and risks from hazardous substances entering in the workplace.

Qualifications


What We Are Looking For:

  • A good standard of education, must include English, Maths and ideally a science due to the type of work you will be carrying out on a daily basis
  • Must be able to follow instructions and carry out manual jobs ensuring safety at all times, will include lifting and carrying heavy goods.
  • A positive “can do” attitude and ability to work to tight deadlines and competing demands
  • Demonstrate initiative and ability to multi-task and plan own work effectively
  • Must have the ability to communicate effectively verbally and in written form.
  • Computer literate and confident using Microsoft Office
  • A flexible approach to working additional hours when required
  • Must have a full driving licence (annual checks will be carried out)

Additional Information


Weekly working hours are 37.5 per week Monday to Friday with 45-minute unpaid lunch break each day. Core hours are 8.45 am to 5.00 pm. The company operates a flexitime system allowing you to vary your contractual start and finish times by 30 minutes, providing your daily contractual hours are worked each day. During your initial training period, you will be expected to perform the core contractual hours.
