Job overview


Your role will be to provide specialist Occupational Therapy assessments and interventions, both individually and in groups, taking into account individual service user needs.

To contribute to the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of interventions within the context of a multi-disciplinary team.

To work as part of the ward management team alongside the Deputy Ward Manager and Ward Manager and supervise an Occupational Therapy Support Worker.

To participate in the planning, development and evaluation of the rehabilitation service that encompasses an inpatient and community team holding responsibility for defined projects.

To contribute to the development of the Trust Occupational Therapy Service.

  • To promote understanding of the role of OT within the team.
  • To deal sensitively with a wide range of emotional responses associated with communication with clients and carers.
  • Ensure that all members of the team have adequate information to carry out their role.
  • To take shared responsibility to chair both staff and patient meetings when on duty.
  • Ability to manage time effectively and set priorities.
  • Ability to sustain moderate physical effort to move equipment or carry out manual handling procedures.

Clinical experience

Essential criteria
  • Current professional registration – HCPC
  • CPD portfolio containing evidence of active involvement of CPD activities
  • Substantial Post registration experience as an OT, predominantly in mental health.
  • Post registration experience in a relevant clinical setting.

Therapeutic working relationships

Essential criteria
  • Extensive clinical experience, including individual and group work.
  • Application and interpretation of standardised O.T. assessment.
  • Relevant Post-Graduate qualification, e.g. AMPS, DBT, SI, Psychosocial intervention or equivalent relevant experience
