Job Overview

This role reports into The Global Head of Client and Market Development – Financial Investors (FI) and will provide high-level client & market development support for the FI client segment globally. This role will be responsible for helping drive global revenue growth from the FI client base and management of our dedicated global FI team. Our Financial Investors client & market development team manages relationships, and helps our lawyers to develop business with, clients across 5 key sectors: Private Equity, Funds & Asset Managers, Insurance, Real Estate and Sovereign Wealth. It is the firm's highest growth client segment and is a critical part of the firm's business strategy.

This is one vacancy which can be based in London, New York, Singapore, Paris, Amsterdam or Frankfurt.

Who you will work with


The Senior Executive Manager will collaborate on a regular basis with the C&MD FI Global Head as well as the segment's global leader and other partners. The role-holder will also collaborate closely with the FI BCM Manager, and other global heads of Client & Market Development, who are aligned to global business units, client segments, and the regional directors.

What you will do

  • Support the FI Leadership Group on the implementation of the global FI strategy including, revenue generation, thought leadership, internal communication and PR programmes.
  • Day to day management responsibility for the global FI team, which includes a team of 10+ sector, client support and research specialists based in our London, Amsterdam, New York and Delhi offices.
  • Oversee the FI GSC key client programme, including responsibility for annual performance targets and objectives, selection of clients, distribution of the fee-earner newsletter and thought leadership materials, annual and interim reviews of the portfolio's financial performance, training and development programmes for client teams, and liaison with the other CMD segment leads on the broader GSC client programme goals.
  • Client Development Management responsibility for up to 3 of our FI GSC clients, including responsibility for creating the annual client plan and revenue objectives, managing internal client team calls and communications, researching and analysing the client's business to identify new opportunities, relationship mapping and the development of new key client relationships, preparation of internal and external client financial reporting, responsibility for global panel pitches/major cross-practice opportunities and gathering regular client feedback.
  • Ensure 'Must Win' FI pitches (including all FI GSC legal panel reappointments) are strongly managed and put in the best position to win.
  • Collaborate closely with the Global Head of Client Feedback and oversee the FI segment's client feedback programme, including annual benchmarking and objective setting, increasing the volume of feedback received from across the FI sectors, dissemination of feedback reports to the FI client/sector teams so the feedback is actionable, and the implementation of action programmes to improve service delivery and broaden the relationship across functions.
  • Ensure the use and maintenance of key CMD infrastructure critical to growing FI clients and work (e.g. InterAction, Matter Information System, Marketing Materials, Pandora).

Your career experience so far

The successful candidate should have
  • Experience managing a global sector or practice team, preferably with professional services industry experience, whilst experience working in the legal market is not necessary, the skill of working effectively in a consensus based partnership structure and culture is preferred.
  • Experience managing global client and sector programmes.
  • In-depth knowledge of the Financial Investors client base would be advantageous, in particular successfully developing and implementing client plans with a focus on Financial Investors.
  • A client centric view and the ability to translate strategic opportunities into actionable plans.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage, supervise and motivate global teams through personal leadership and enthusiasm.
  • Clear and effective writing, presentational and verbal communications skills.
  • Practical, commercially minded and service driven with a "can do" attitude and hands on approach.
  • The individual should have a global perspective, with sensitivity to multiple and diverse cultures.
  • The ability to work effectively and co-operatively with senior internal stakeholders, including partners, function leaders, client & market development, and brand, communication and marketing colleagues.
  • Proven project management skills.
