Department of Infectious Disease

Salary: £40,809- £49,818 Full-time, Fixed term for 12 months.

Location: St Mary’s campus until Spring 2024 then South Kensington campus

Job Summary

The Department of Infectious Diseases are seeking an experienced and self-motivated maternity cover laboratory manager to ensure the smooth running of the Section of Paediatric Infectious Disease on the St Mary’s Campus until the Department’s relocation to South Kensington in spring 2024, with visits to other campuses necessary.

Duties and responsibilities


  • You will be responsible for compliance with Section health and safety requirements and regulations and will have demonstrable knowledge and experience of this.
  • Managing the maintenance of equipment and laboratory space, in addition to ordering materials and equipment.
  • Responsibility for a consumables account and will be expected to maximise the budget.
  • In all your duties, you will maintain accurate records and keep abreast of, and communicate changes to, legislation, regulations and policy.

Essential requirements


  • You will have a degree or equivalent in a biological subject and have practical experience of working with general laboratory equipment and managing laboratories.
  • You will be a confident and effective communicator and able to influence others tactfully and professionally.
  • Organised and flexible, and your ability to prioritise and work under pressure are essential. Knowledge of safety regulations and laboratory safety are essential.
  • Being approachable, self-motivated, helpful and able to work independently or as part of a team.

Salary will be at Level 3b of the PTO scale.
