Cardiff School of Biosciences
A position is available for a Research Associate to conduct research within the field of prostate cancer.
The successful candidate will require a postgraduate degree at PhD level in a related subject area or equivalent or relevant industrial experience and a portfolio of research and/or relevant industrial experience within 3 of the following research fields:
i. Cell culture including generating stably transfected mammalian cell lines
ii. In vitro assays including migration and colony forming assays
iii. Experience working with mouse models of cancer, including husbandry, genotyping, colony management and dissection.
iv. Standard biochemistry assays to analyse gene/protein expression and function including qRT-PCR, Western blotting, FACS and immunohistochemistry.

This position is full-time, fixed term for 2 years.
Salary: £36,333 - £43,155 per annum (Grade 6). Please note that it is not expected that we will appoint above grade 6.30, currently £36,333 per annum.

Job Description
To conduct research within the field of prostate cancer, investigating the therapeutic benefit of targeting the Wnt pathway using primarily in vitro assays and supporting in vivo work on preclinical models. The project is funded by the Prostate Cancer Research charity, and ultimately aims to understand how Wnt signalling is regulating metastasis in prostate cancer.
To contribute to the overall research performance of the School and University, carrying out research leading to the publishing of work in high-quality research.
To pursue excellence in research and to inspire others to do the same. The successful applicant will join a vibrant and well-funded research environment, which includes established post-doctoral research associates, post-doctoral fellows and PhD students.
Research
- To conduct research, and generate publication quality figures from data, within the field of prostate cancer, investigating the therapeutic benefit of targeting the Wnt pathway using primarily in vitro assays and supporting in vivo work on preclinical models. The project is funded by the Prostate Cancer Research charity, and ultimately aims to understand how Wnt signalling is regulating metastasis in prostate cancer.
- To contribute to the overall research performance of the School and University by the production of measurable outputs including bidding for funding, publishing in national academic journals and conferences, and the recruitment and supervision of postgraduate research students.
- To develop research objectives and proposals for own or joint research including research funding proposals.
- To attend and or present at conferences/seminars at a local and national level as required.
- To undertake administrative tasks associated with the research project, including the planning and organisation of the project and the implementation of procedures required to ensure accurate and timely reporting.
- To prepare research ethics and research governance applications as appropriate.
- To review and synthesise existing research literature within the field.
- To participate in School research activities.
- To build and create networks both internally and externally to the university, to influence decisions, explore future research requirements, and share research ideas for the benefit of research projects.

- To engage effectively with industrial, commercial and public sector organisations, professional institutions, other academic institutions etc., regionally and nationally to raise awareness of the School’s profile, to cultivate strategically valuable alliances, and to pursue opportunities for collaboration across a range of activities.
