Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an existing band 7 or experienced band 6 to join the Medicine and Oncology Team, based at Nottingham City Hospital. The clinical areas covered within this role include oncology, respiratory, renal, haematology and palliative care.

We are looking for a highly motivated and dynamic individual who is committed to leading on clinical practice, evolving the occupational therapy role and developing patient pathways. The post will focus on medical rehabilitation, particularly for patients with long term conditions, so the successful candidate must have a have broad experience of a variety of clinical areas including the medicine specialities, neurology and orthopaedics.

The successful candidate will work alongside the team leader and Advanced Practitioner and be responsible for progressing a team of occupational therapists, occupational therapy support workers and generic therapy support workers. This role is a good opportunity for your own development opportunities skills whilst working within a supportive and motivated team.

The main duties of the job include but are not limited to:

Work as part of multidisciplinary teams in all clinical areas.

Demonstrate advanced level patient assessment and intervention as appropriate in the relevant areas, including rehabilitation, activity analysis and clinical reasoning.

Lead and provide clinical support to members of the team

Lead the teams projects meetings and support more junior staff with their projects when needed

Provide supervision to more junior staff (including Band 6 and band 5, support workers and students)

Undertake relevant managerial and operational duties and responsibilities

Work alongside Therapy Service Managers and senior colleagues in the occupational therapy to develop the service in line with evidence based practice

Support student placements within the team and provide formal and informal training

Participate in the weekend working rota.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The successful applicant will demonstrate advanced level occupational therapy skills in assessment and diverse interventions including rehabilitation, seating, positioning, splinting and discharge planning. An in-depth understanding of stroke or neurology management is essential for this role.

A willingness to learn and develop further, both clinically and professionally and to lead on this within the team is essential. The successful applicant must be open minded to new ways of working and lead on this. The ideal individual for this role needs to be flexible, dynamic and forward thinking. Strong leadership qualities are essential in this post, alongside advocating for the OT role in the MDT setting. You will demonstrate an ability to work autonomously to an advanced level and provide support to other members of the team, including peers, Band 5 OT’s, including preceptees, support workers and students. The successful candidate will demonstrate the ability to work flexibly to support the needs of the service.
