Job Description

Mechanical Assembly Technician / Bench Fitter with pneumatics and excellent all round engineering skills related to assembling high value special purpose machinery is required ASAP for a permanent position in Altrincham / Wythenshawe Area. Salary is approx. £31,500 pa (DoE) + excellent benefits see below. The basic working week is approx. 38 hours (Mon – Thur 7:40am- 4pm and Fri 7:40am-1:40pm).

The applicant should be experienced in all aspects of mechanical engineering from bench assembly work to using small basic machine tools. Experienced in working with pneumatics, hydraulics and competent with basic electrics. Knowledge of working and assembling servo motors, gearboxes and associated equipment would be an advantage.

Job Objective: To effectively perform mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic and basic electrical installation duties on all equipment to the required timescale and quality and in accordance with the job specification/drawings and works order.

The successful Mechanical Assembly Technician / Bench Fitter day to day duties will include:

  • Complete assembly of any of the company’s equipment in line with guidelines and instructions.
  • Operate tools, including a centre lathe, milling machine, grinders, drills etc. and to carry out simple modification work of parts manufactured by subcontractors if required.
  • Complete simple welding duties as part of a drum assembly process.
  • Assist other members of the production team and work colleagues when required thus ensuring a harmonious team environment.
  • Carry out installation and service work in accordance with the company guide lines and procedures with consideration to the budgeted costs in any country worldwide to which machines are supplied. Overseas travel maybe required once fully trained.

  • Department meets the delivery targets of the company.
  • Deal professionally, competently and courteously with customers, suppliers and colleagues in verbal and written communications.
  • Maintain all appropriate documentation and ensure that all unused components are returned to stores appropriately
  • Display a professional approach and follow the company rules as specified in the Employment Handbook.

To be suitable for this Mechanical Engineer / Field Service Engineer role you must have the following experience / characteristics:

  • Ideally be time served / completed apprenticeship as a Mechanical Assemby Technician / Bench Fitter / Mechanical Engineer.
  • Relevant mechanical qualifications (NVQ L3, C&G L3, ONC etc.).
  • Excellent knowledge of assembling and installing pneumatic components.
  • Welding and manual machining skills – Drilling, Milling, Centre Lathe, Grinding etc.
  • Basic electrical knowledge of wiring machinery and equipment.
  • Good communicational (oral, reading and writing) skills.
  • PC Literate – MS Word / MS Excel
  • Full UK Drivers Licence

The ideal Mechanical Assembly Fitter / Field Service Engineer will have the following skills / experience:

  • HNC qualification in a relevant mechanical engineering discipline
  • Recent experience of hydraulics, working & assembling servo motors, gear boxes and associated equipment.
  • Previous experience of assembling high value / low volume bespoke rotating machinery.
  • Electrical Qualifications
  • Commissioned / serviced machinery on customer’s site.
