Closing Date: Tuesday 06 June 2023
Boys’ Senior School (11-18 Years)

Required for September 2023

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic Mathematics Teacher to join our flourishing, dynamic department from September 2023 on a one year fixed term contract. The successful candidate will be required to deliver the curriculum to motivated and academically strong pupils, possibly up to A Level.

Bolton School is a large, thriving, academically selective school, situated in an attractive, prosperous part of Bolton and with easy access to some of the nation’s finest cities and countryside. Together, the Boys’ and Girls’ Divisions offer pupils single sex education in a co-educational environment – ‘the best of both worlds’.

With 2,300 students on site, Bolton School is one of the largest independent day schools in the country. It is situated a mile or so from the town centre in a pleasant wooded campus, surrounded by 32 acres of playing fields. Serving a wide area of the North West through more than 20 coach routes. The School has for many years offered some form of fee assistance to a substantial proportion of its pupils. At present, 1 in 6 boys have fee assistance. The school prides itself not only on its academic tradition, but on the immense range of other activities which are vigorously pursued both in and beyond the school day.

The Mathematics Department has a long record of success at all levels. Students take part in a variety of extra-curricular Mathematics events and competitions, including the Mathematics Challenge and Olympiad. A good number of boys go on to study mathematics at University.

All staff and boys are issued with iPads to enable access to resources and, if required, for the collection and return of work via the School’s Wi-Fi network.

The Department is housed in 8 adjacent rooms, with a large Maths staffroom on the same corridor. Within the staffroom, each member of the department has their own desk and a computer linked to the school network. All of the rooms contain a Smart Board and projector all linked to the school network. There are a number of software packages on the school network including Autograph, Cabri and a set of interactive excel files called the virtual textbook. There is a very strong collegiate atmosphere in the department, genuine expertise in and enjoyment of the subject and commitment to the success of boys in the subject at all levels.

We hope to appoint a well-qualified graduate in Mathematics who is able to add to and complement the strengths of the department. The position may equally suit a newly qualified member of the profession, or someone with more experience; in either case the successful applicant will be a strong classroom practitioner who is able to infuse others with a love for mathematics and to inspire the outstandingly able boys as well as to nurture those far less confident in their mathematical ability. A willingness to contribute to the extra-curricular life of the School is essential, with all staff playing a part in this important aspect of the school.

For further details and to apply online for the position please visit the School website.

Closing date for applications: 6 June 2023 at 12 noon
Interviews will be held on 13 June 2023

A generous level of PPA is provided which allows members of staff, as valued professionals, to manage their time appropriately and maintain a healthy work-life balance.
