Managing Editor – temporary maternity cover
We are looking for a managing editor to join the Adult Consumer Editorial team at Bloomsbury on a temporary basis to cover a maternity leave.
Our division publishes everything from Booker Prize-winning literary novels to celebrity memoirs, and you’ll be working across the list on mono fiction and non-fiction books, as well as the occasional illustrated book.
This is a project-management role (sometimes called a desk editor in other publishing houses). As managing editor, you will oversee books from handover from the commissioning editor through to print, managing every stage after that point – booking the freelancers, overseeing the copyedit and proofread, organising legal reads and permissions, and anything else the book needs. Excellent communication is key in this role, as you’ll be in constant contact with authors, agents, freelancers and your Bloomsbury colleagues.
We are looking for someone with excellent project-management skills, who will prioritise building great relationships with authors, freelancers and colleagues and will take the initiative on projects. You must have a passion for producing market-leading titles. This is not an entry-level role.
If you fit these criteria, we want to hear from you – whether you’re an experienced publishing professional or not. We welcome applications from people who have worked in similar roles in other industries, from arts producers to magazine sub-editors.
This is a key non-commissioning role within editorial management, reporting to the Senior Managing Editor.
