Job Description

In this key, business facing role, you’ll be responsible for preparation, reporting and commentary on P&L costs for the Marketing function as well as other General Overheads for the Group (including Corporate Finance, Sustanability and Workplace). Bringing strong business partnering skills and a confidence in presenting financial information to senior non-finance staff, you’ll provide meaningful insight to help the business track against its budget and forecasts. In addition, you’ll input into the monthly management accounts, and will use your broader business knowledge to provide meaningful commentary, performance analysis and explanations of significant variances to budget at a level of detail and tone appropriate for the Board.

Our ever-expanding business changes by the day. With this comes a wealth of ad-hoc projects and process improvements we’ll seek your involvement in. As such, we’re looking for someone with initiative who can recognise and act on these opportunities for change and is keen to get involved with new projects to help the business and broaden their own knowledge.

Responsibilities

  • Business partnering and leading meetings with business heads to present key variance analysis and other commentary on cost areas
  • Developing and maintaining a solid understanding of business risks and opportunities to analyse performance, identify interdependencies and to provide insightful commentary and explain significant variances to budget and forecast
  • Taking a key role in annual budget and ongoing reforecast processes, liaising with the business and utilising understanding to present coherent proposals
  • Taking responsibility for monthly intercompany reconciliation, working with wider finance teams to resolve any queries
  • Ownership of monthly transfer pricing working papers and journals, with quarterly presentation of key analysis to senior finance stakeholders

Qualifications
  • A qualified ACA or CIMA accountant (or equivalent), either newly qualified or with 1-2 years’ PQE
  • Strong academic background
  • Analytically minded with a blend of commercial know-how, financial discipline and technical accounting knowledge
  • Strong interpersonal skills necessary to build key relationships with senior members of the Group’s executive team
  • A confident communicator with the ability to deliver messages and plans to fellow stakeholders at all levels
  • Excellent at project and task management with the ability to adapt quickly to new situations and priorities
  • Proactive with a can-do attitude and a desire to take ownership
  • Intermediate Excel skills

We value open expression at Trainline, we believe it’s the diversity of experience, backgrounds and perspectives of our employees that makes us who we are. We encourage everybody to play a part in changing the way people travel across the world.
