Job Description

Are you passionate about social work practice? Do you have a strong value base and commitment to support the workforce to ‘do the right thing’? Do you have an ambition to develop your career as a leader of children’s safeguarding localities in a Welsh local authority committed to continuously improving?

Bridgend is a Council that values our social workers and investing significant resource in improving their experience of working in child protection roles. We are implementing Signs of Safety as our model of practice and have invested in a range of support roles so social workers have more time to build relationships with children and families. You will share our passion for practice and have experience of making a positive difference to the lives of children, families or adults with care and support needs in a children’s social work management role.

You will join a committed children’s services leadership team and we will give you the support you need to develop your career and to build strong relationships with your workforce, partners and across the whole Council.

Bridgend supports flexible working opportunities, including hybrid working, and generous annual leave entitlements. We offer a generous relocation package (up to £8,000) for those who are relocating to work in the county borough. Bridgend county is itself a fantastic place to live with stunning coastline, vibrant towns and beautiful valley and countryside areas, high performing schools and great access via public transport and along the M4 to Cardiff and Swansea within a 30 minutes or less! You will be responsible for care and support and safeguarding services which are co-located with targeted early help and prevention services in 3 community ‘hubs’, 2 of which are on school sites. We are investing in a range of non social work support roles in commissioning, performance and business strategy so you have the time to spend your time leading the people and systems which will support our commitment to continuous improvement in social services and wellbeing in Bridgend. We have a wide range of services available, including award winning prevention and wellbeing and Council delivered accommodation care and support for children and adults.

We offer high quality training and development. We know our workforce are our greatest asset; even during the most challenging of times 93% responded they felt well supported. Most importantly, we are an authority where we clear about the importance of the right culture and value base and ‘having the backs’ of our workforce to do the right thing. We have highly effective partnerships – with the NHS, education, police, 3rd sector and leisure and cultural partners with whom we work closely and to make a difference for the better for our children, young people and families
