A fantastic short-term opportunity has arisen for an experienced individual to join the LSTM Research Management Services in management of the financial aspects of the regional development programmes awarded to LSTM, specifically the UKRI Strength in Places Fund (SIPF) and the European Regional Development Fund, European Structural and Investment Fund (ESIF).

If you bring experience of working closely with PIs and programme teams in the development and / or management of funded grants, monitoring, reviewing, and reporting on expenditures as well as being responsible for all auditing and compliance matters related to grants, we are keen to hear from you.

As it is a short-term opportunity, we expect the successful candidate to hit the ground running and ideally, be available to join us within 2 weeks of being appointed.

Key responsibilities include (but are not limited to):

  • Work closely with the PI and programme team, you will set and continually review/monitor budgets across the programmes and consortium and undertake all financial forecasting to support effective project implementation and delivery
  • Advise heads of department, professional services colleagues and other senior staff on the management of risk and compliance in relation to such awards as well as implement stringent internal processes to ensure adequate and effective local controls, embedding LSTM and funder ethos throughout.
  • You are required to monitor LSTM and partner expenditure regularly, understand variances, discuss with PI/Programme Team to bring back on target and produce regular internal financial reports/projections in conjunction with the programme team in support of implementation and delivery.
  • Responsible for production and submission of financial claims for reimbursement of programme income as well as production of financial narrative reports for the programme whilst maintaining strict documentary evidence at all levels
  • Be the financial point of contact for all auditing matters related to these grants with auditors and ensure due diligence on partners where necessary following LSTM process and procedures
  • Build effective relationships with and work closely with the project oversight and consortium teams, programme management teams and the wider Research Management Services team.
  • Visit partners in the Liverpool City Region, support them with all financial enquiries and participate in any local networks relating to the role including Local Enterprise Partnerships and North West Universities European Unit

We are looking for an individual who will be able to create sound working relationships and lead the financial project delivery of assigned grants, whilst always maintaining tight control of finances and adequate forecasts. Additionally, you must demonstrate negotiation and influencing skills and cultural sensitivity coupled with outstanding presentation and organisational skills.

Ideally, we are looking for a candidate that can demonstrate:

  • Educated to degree level or equivalent proven continuous professional development through working in a similar environment – with an accountancy or financial qualification or equivalent.
  • Detailed knowledge of project based financial management
  • Experience of advising on the management and reduction of risk in the development and / or management of funded grants
  • Experience of working on projects with multiple partners
  • Experience of using an integrated general ledger/accounting package and holds outstanding Microsoft Excel skills, with in depth skill to manipulate and present data
