£1,378.58 per week inclusive of out of hours allowance (ST1/ST2 level)

The Role
Available from August 2023, but candidates interested in a shorter or longer duration appointment are also welcome to apply. You would gain experience in haematology, outpatient clinics, in-patients and you would also work with patients requiring on-going chemotherapy and clinical monitoring in the McMillan Cancer Unit. As part of the service component you would provide a proportion of out of hours service (evenings and weekends, possibly nights) in general medicine and hospital at night.
Borders General Hospital is a modern and well-equipped 284 bed DGH serving the rural Borders area in South East Scotland, approximately 36 miles from Edinburgh.
This post is aimed at post foundation doctors at ST1 or ST2 level who have completed a foundation medical training programme (or have gained equivalent additional clinical experience). Full GMC registration and licence to practice is essential but no previous haematology experience is required. Ideally you can demonstrate a genuine interest in pursuing a career in haematology.
This post is not a recognised training grade but may be the right opportunity for you to develop and evidence clinical and professional competence to assist overall career development
In combination with the clinical component, the protected development component of this post is flexible according to your specific needs, level of experience and career interest. An educational supervisor (a senior clinician within the hospital) will be appointed to support you to formulate a Personal Development Plan and if necessary a portfolio. Opportunities exist for experience in
Medical Education (specifically in simulation), Management and Leadership, Clinical Skills and Quality Improvement. Protected development time equates to approximately 1 day per working week.
