Job Description

The postholder will manage the development and delivery of several projects which will support improvements in patient safety in these key areas. They will be required to liaise with a range of stakeholders across the Trust in order to scope, develop and evaluate these projects

The role will involve:
  • Providing a bridge between senior clinical leaders, managers and the wider maternity trainee workforce to improve communication, engagement, and morale.
  • Leading on work to support the improved understanding of and involvement in the Trust’s maternity improvement programme for the wider maternity trainee workforce.
  • Leading on specific improvement projects to improve patient safety.
  • Developing and maintaining up-to-date project documentation, and producing periodic progress reports.
  • Attending and presenting their work at key trust meetings, including the executive maternity oversight meeting.
Maternity Safety Improvement Fellow

The postholder will also attend departmental and trustwide management meetings to gain an understanding of management and the wider social, political and economic influence on health care delivery.

The postholder will be responsible creating project plans and documentation ensuring that operational handover to colleagues in the Office of the Medical Director is successfully achieved at the end of the fellowship.

This fellowship is an excellent opportunity for a doctor in training who is interested in developing their leadership portfolio, to significantly develop their management skills and understanding of the patient safety needs of a large, complex Trust. This post will allow the postholder to develop skills in project design, management, leadership, delivery and support of safety improvement programmes as well as project assessment.

The postholder will work across all sites but will be based for administrative purposes at Queen Charlotte’s and Chelsea Hospital. The role is office based, 40hrs, 5 days per week. The role is fixed term for 12 months with the opportunity to extend.

This role will provide support with implementation of the overarching maternity improvement programme, currently being developed, which will:
  • Ensure on-going compliance with key national standards and requirements, including CNST MIS year 5, and the recommendations of the Ockenden and East Kent independent reports.
  • Deliver local safety improvement priorities identified in response to incidents, audits, complaints and other quality insights.
