The Data Scientist position sits within Commercial and Performance Department of SP Manweb plc (SPM) . The job holder will help to interpret and manage data and solve complex problems using expertise in a variety of data niches. Providing effective commercial results for Commercial and Performance to deliver against the business targets based on machine intelligence.

What You'll Be Doing:

In this role, you’ll have several key responsibilities including:

• Extracting, analysing and interpreting large amounts of data from a range of sources, using, machine learning and statistical tools, in order to make it accessible to businesses.
• Working closely with business experts to identify issues and use data to propose solutions for effective decision making.
• Responsibility for SPMs data science strategy.
• Building algorithms and designing experiments to merge, manage, interrogate and extract data to supply tailored reports to colleagues, senior management or the wider organisation.
• Using machine learning tools and statistical techniques to produce solutions to problems and communicate these solutions.
• Creating clear reports that tell compelling stories about how SPM perform for regulatory and commercial purpose.
• Assessing the effectiveness of data sources and data-gathering techniques and improve data collection methods.
• Establishing new systems and processes and looking for opportunities to improve the flow of data. Evaluating new and emerging technologies and presenting business cases for their usage.
• Involving the wider team in finding solutions to areas where performance is not on target.

What You'll Bring:

To be successful in applying for this role, we are looking for an individual with the following Key Skills and Experience:

• Degree or Masters in a Science or Mathematics related subject.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to deliver under pressure and to tight deadlines.
• Experience with manipulating large datasets for data analysis and machine learning in a cloud environment.
• Exceptional communication and presentation skills to explain your work to people who don't understand the mechanics behind data analysis.
• Effective listening skills to understand the requirements of SPM.
• Drive and the resilience to try new ideas, if the first one doesn't work - you'll be expected to work with minimal supervision, so it's important that you're able to motivate yourself.
• Planning, time management and organisational skills.
• Experience in SQL, Python for data analysis and machine learning would be desirable.
• Teamworking skills and a collaborative approach to sharing ideas and finding solutions.
