Royal Aberdeen Golf Club, sixth oldest club in the world founded in 1780, is consistently ranked amongst the leading courses in the world and occupies a unique place in the history of golf, having hosted many of the top International Professional and Amateur golfing events, including the Walker Cup 2011, Aberdeen Asset Scottish Open 2014 and more recently the Scottish Senior Open 2021.

We are looking for an experienced Course Manager who must have the ambition, drive, energy, and attention to detail to continually improve the course and strive for excellence. The candidate will appreciate the heritage of the site and have the ambition and ability to enhance the reputation of the course. They should be a proven team leader, able to prioritise and multi-task, and work within the senior management team, remaining diplomatic and inclusive.

Essential

  • Possess a wealth of technical greenkeeping and agronomy skills together with experience of tournament standards of course preparation.
  • Fine Turf Experience.
  • The ability and experience to inspire, motivate and manage a team to achieve the objectives set by the Golf Club.
  • The highest standards of professionalism, effective communications, strong IT capabilities, and interpersonal skills with appropriate professional qualifications.
  • An eye for detail and commitment to deliver the highest standards.
  • A high level of knowledge and application of health and safety, employment, and other legislative requirements.
  • Be smart in appearance, present the team in a professional manner and maintain a clean and tidy maintenance facility.
  • Excellent administrative skills, able to prepare/manage operational and Capex budgets, and produce accurate, timely reports.
  • Competent in the operation and maintenance of a modern computerised irrigation system.

  • Construction experience
  • Sites of specific scientific site experience
  • Erosion management experience

Qualifications, skills, experience

  • Previous Head Greenkeeper / Course Manager experience essential
  • Hold Level 3 and 4 qualifications in turf management or equivalent.
  • Hold PA1, PA2, and PA6 spray qualifications.
  • First aid at work certificate holder
  • Full driving licence
  • Excavator experience (desirable)
  • Chainsaw certificates (desirable)
  • Play golf to a reasonable level (desirable)

A remuneration package (subject to experience) commensurate for a Course Manager of a Championship venue will be offered inclusive of additional benefits, such as:
