Civil Engineering Degree Apprentice

Hours: 37 hours a week

Location: Bilsthorpe, Nottinghamshire

Are you looking to kick start your career as Project Engineer? Via currently has a fantastic opportunity to join our Highways Design Team as a Civil Engineering Degree Apprentice based at our Bilsthorpe Depot.

As Civil Engineering Degree Apprentice you will support the delivery of civil engineering projects and assist with providing specialist engineering services which enhance and maintain the road network and meet company business plan objectives.

You’ll gain first-rate training and mentoring along with workplace experience and the formal qualifications to back it up! Throughout the training period you will gain your Level 6 Civil Engineering Degree Apprenticeship through one of our carefully selected partner Universities. What’s more, all our apprentices are recruited on to a permanent contract from day one, so once you’re finished training, you’ll transition to a role within our Design and Consultancy Team.

About the role:

As a Civil Engineering Degree Apprentice within our Highway Design- Maintenance Team, you will take responsibility for smaller scale highway schemes helping to meet internal and external stakeholder requirements and support in the delivery of major highway projects. You will assist in providing design, technical and cost advise to customers to support the delivery of complex and large-scale projects across the organisation and as a standalone service.

You will learn how to support the evaluation and authorisation of third-party engineering schemes on behalf of clients to ensure the highway asset meets regional and national design specification and safety standards. You will learn about our health and safety management systems, processes and requirements in order to support full adherence to health, safety and environmental legislation, policy and best practice. You’ll be expected to assist with communication and liaison with clients, stakeholders and members of the public to support project delivery and maintain positive company reputation.

Candidate Requirements:

We are looking for a motivated and enthusiastic individual who has an interest in developing a career as a civil engineer.

We’re looking for:

  • A minimum of 2 A levels (or equivalent) to include Maths and Science or an equivalent Level 3 BTEC (or equivalent) in Civil Engineering (or a related subject).
  • A minimum of 5 GCSE’s A-C (grade 4+ or equivalent) ideally including Maths and English.
  • An keen eye for detail and strong analytical skills with the ability to draw meaningful conclusions.
  • Knowledge of IT packages such as Microsoft Office – including Excel.
  • Good interpersonal and clear, concise communication skills with the ability to work well as part of a team and on own initiative.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with a high standard or written English, spelling and grammar.
