Binnies is looking for Senior and Principal Civil Engineers to work within our Consultancy team on water projects. We are seeking applicants with a range of experience from recently Incorporated/Chartered up to Principal level.

Binnies have offices in Exeter, Chester, Redhill, Bradford-on-Avon, Swansea, and Glasgow. We welcome applicants based in these locations or from further afield who are comfortable working remotely although occasional office attendance will be required.

As a Senior or Principal Civil Engineer, you will have the opportunity to use your experience of projects from concept, through outline and detailed design and construction, to lead teams in the delivery of consultancy projects. You will have the opportunity to work across a variety of sectors, including water and wastewater engineering, flood and coastal engineering, and reservoirs, or to specialise in one of these areas if preferred. You may have specialist experience in areas such as hydraulics and hydraulic modelling, geotechnics, and structural engineering, and will be able to lead and instruct less experienced engineers to produce deliverables in these disciplines.

About the Role

Roles are built around the individual and workloads. Typically, you will lead civil engineering and/or multi-disciplinary teams and support and mentor more junior engineers to achieve the following:

  • create outline and detailed designs for a variety of multi-disciplinary water utilities and flood & coast projects,
  • produce calculations and reports to support those designs across a variety of technical disciplines,
  • work directly with clients to understand their needs and develop solutions to their problems,
  • produce business cases and proposals to enable our clients to fund their projects,
  • work with our construction partners to improve safety of designs and understand and improve the construction process,
  • ensure our designs take account of buildability, sustainability, H&S and environmental requirements.

About You

  • Chartered or Incorporated Engineer with the Institution of Civil Engineers or another relevant institution.
  • Previous experience in the water sector is not essential, we would look for technical skills transferrable to a civil engineering role in the water sector.
  • Desire to support and mentor more junior engineers towards achieving Chartered or Incorporated Engineer status.
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills.
  • Self-motivated and effective team player.
  • A drive to deliver sustainable solutions in the water and environment industries.
