The Clinical Microbiology Department at Nottingham University Hospitals have some exciting opportunities following a significant investment to allow service to grow and be able to provide a comprehensive 24/7 clinical diagnostic microbiology service. We are looking for suitably qualified candidates to join the team in the role of Associate Practitioners.
Associate practitioners are high level support staff who work with biomedical scientists to ensure effective service delivery on a rotational basis; duties include data entry, equipment maintenance and processing samples. The role is varied and involves providing support to the scientific staff (Biomedical Scientists) and as such is a key role in sustaining a quality diagnostic service.
Main duties of the job
Work includes the receipt, data input of patient demographics and test request information, sample sorting, preparation, processing and analysis of patient samples, maintaining stocks of consumable items, disposal of biological waste, operating and maintaining laboratory equipment and general housekeeping duties.

Previous experience in an NHS clinical laboratory or in analytical techniques would be an advantage and full training will be provided. What is important to have is a positive attitude; experience of working effectively in a busy team environment, good communication skills, problem solving skills, ability to perform repetitive tasks, good concentration and attention to detail is also experience that we are looking for.

The microbiology service is a fully integrated service compromising of bacteriology, serology, virology, molecular diagnostics and research and development. The laboratory is a busy ISO15189 accredited laboratory and the department is recognized for the high level of training standards and training programmes delivered in house for all aspects of Microbiology.

Salary: The quoted salary will be on a pro rata basis for part time workers.
